With Halloween coming up in October, television networks will start airing everyone’s favourite scary movie. We all know the classics: The Excorcist, Friday The 13th, Halloween, Amityville Horror, Nightmare on Elm Street and so on.

1. I Know What You Did Last Summer

When Freddy and Daphne aren’t solving mysteries with The Mystery Gang, they are running from a cloaked, fish hook wielding killer. A killer who vows revenge on the four friends for what they did last summer. How did the secret get out? And who is this mysterious cloaked killer?

I think the quality of the movie is best revealed in how many people actually believed it was real. Three film students venture into the spooky Maryland forest to investigate and document the legend of The Blair Witch. None of them are heard from again but their footage is discovered.

4. The Sixth Sense

This one is especially chilling, and the ending will surely haunt you. A child psychologist helps a little boy who can communicate with ghosts.

5. The Others (2001)

For anyone who enjoys a good twist ending, this movie is for you! A mother of two photosensitive children becomes suspicious of a supernatural presence in the house.

6. The Ring (2002)

Anyone whose seen this film secretly fears picking up their phone to hear the dreaded words,”Seven days.” (This also made for some great prank calls!) A journalist investigates a video tape that causes the death of anyone who views it within 7 days of viewing it.

7. The Caller (2011)

Warning: This film will leave you extremely paranoid, and wondering who previously owned your home. A young divorcee starts to get mysterious calls from a lonely elderly woman, but when she asks the woman to stop calling, horrifying things happen.

8. Jeepers Creepers (2001)

Jeepers Creepers, where’d ya get them peepers? Jeepers Creepers, where’d ya get those eyes? Anyone whose seen this film knows that if you hear this song, you better run! A sister and brother driving through the countryside together encounter a flying, flesh-eating creature.

9. Insidious (2010)

Tiptoe through the tulips! (Why do scary movies have to ruin such nice songs?) Parents seek the help of a medium when they suspect their comatose son is being possessed by an evil entity.

10. Anabelle (2022)

I don’t even know half of what happened because I watched this movie with a pillow over my eyes. I still refuse to say the doll’s name out loud. A newlywed couple experience strange occurences involving a vintage doll after satanic cultists invade their home.

11. Scream (1996)

A movie that’s more fun than scary! A killer stalks teens in the sleepy town of Woodsboro, terrorising them with phone calls and horror movie trivia questions. Beware answering incorrectly…

12. Shutter Island (2010)

All I’ll say is, bring tissues and don’t watch it alone! A US Marshal investigates the escape of a murderess from a hospital for the criminally insane.

13. The Awakening (2011)

Any horror film centred around children is bound to be creepy! BBC’s The Awakening follows a hoax exposer as she attempts to debunk sightings of a child ghost in a boarding school.

14. Sinister (2012)

Like I said before, creepy children! A crime writer investigates the murder of a family and the disappearance of their little girl.
